Evacuation DVD

In November 1943 three thousand people were told they were to be evacuated from their houses within six weeks, taking with them all their possessions and livestock.

It would not be safe to return to their homes as Slapton was to be used by the Ameirican troops to train for D-Day landings.

The film contains archive footage supplied by Dartmouth Museum and photographs from the Blackawton and Strete History group with interviews from residents who were children of the time.

This DVD Highlights theĀ  journey before, during and eventual return following this top secret evacuation in South Devon in 1943.
